Each award consists of $200 USD in cash and a one-year membership in ISSB (membership will be extended for one year if the winner is already a member).
Any student enrolled in an academic institution and has not obtained a Ph.D. degree by June 13, 2016, is eligible. You must send an email before June 1, 2016, to Dan Fong at dfong@american.edu to inform the scientific committee that you wish to compete for the awards, along with the name and email address of a faculty member who may verify your eligibility.

27 Oct 2015: We anticipate a large turnout for the 2016 meeting of the International Conference on Subterranean Biology (ICSB) for several reasons. First, it is the first ever to take place in the United States. Second, we expect to see participation by many U.S. based speleobiologists who are not members of the International Society of Subterranean Biology, and are not usual attendees of ICSB. Third, the venue at Fayetteville, Arkansas, is located near the center of the U.S., and is an excellent springboard to visit other areas of the continental U.S. after the conference. We would also like to maintain the ICSB tradition of avoiding multiple concurrent sessions of oral presentations in order to maximize audience participation and thus promote exchange of ideas among scientists using different approaches or model systems or model organisms. Therefore, available time slots for oral presentations as well as available space to display posters may be limited. Although the deadline for abstracts is not until March 13, 2016, we wish to emphasize that you may submit a tentative title of your oral presentation or poster between now and March 13, 2016, in order to reserve a time slot for an oral presentation or space for a poster. Final assignment of oral presentation time and poster space is of course contingent upon receipt of the abstract by the deadline, approval by the scientific committee, and confirmation of registration by the presenting author.
Email tentative titles to icsb2016@gmail.com and place either “Oral Title” or “Poster Title” on the subject line as appropriate. In the text of the email or in an attached document, give the full title (without abbreviations and acronyms), names of authors (entire names fully spelled out) with the presenting author indicated by an asterisk, and mailing addresses as well as email addresses for all authors.
23 June 2015: We are now accepting abstracts for oral presentations to contributed sessions as well as poster presentations. Instructions and deadlines for abstract submission can be found on the Presentations page under the Conference Info menu.
20 June 2015: Registration is now open. Register before 1 May 2016 to save on registration costs. You can register here.
